Dallas Quilt Show 2017 - "Its a Charmed Life!"
March 10 - 12, 2107
Dallas Market Hall
Friday & Saturday, 10 - 5 PM
Sunday, 12 - 5 PM
For more than 20 years, Saturday afternoon, the show has boasted the sounds of a live auction. Our annual Mini Quilt Auction gives quilt makers and quilt collectors a chance to give back to the local community.
The beneficiary for the 2017 Mini Quilt Auction is the Association for Independent Living (AFIL)
This organization serves the needs of young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing a supportive residential living environment where each individual can learn vital independent living skills at their own pace. Ultimately, the goal is to enable these young adults to live independent lives, contribute to their community and build hope for their future.
AFIL was founded in 1979, upon the premise that all adults have the right to experience life on their own, to the fullest extent of their ability.
Currently, their Training Dormitory houses up to 16 male and female young adults, aged 18 through 30. Residents in this program are no longer in school, but are able to work and volunteer in the community. Clients are screened to ensure that they and have the capability to live independently after completing training. Since 1979, more than 250 young adults have graduated and moved on to live independently.
Auction proceeds will be used to support mastering these independent living objectives:
- Cleaning and Maintaining a Home
- Money Management
- Proper Social Etiquette
- Job Seeking Skills
- Self-Advocacy/Advocating for Others
