Quilter's Guild of Dallas
The Guild's Quilt Collection
Each
year, as part of Quilt Celebration, the
Guild sponsors a "Block Contest." For many years, the contest
results served two purposes. Some of the blocks were used to make the
"donation quilt" for the following year, and the best blocks
were used to make a "keeper quilt" that becomes part of the
Guild's permanent collection. In recent
years, there have been variations from this, with the donation quilt created
using standardized patterns or like the 2001 donation quilt, a common
theme. However, the Block Contest continues as a way for guild members
to pit their skills against other guild members in friendly competition,
while helping the guild preserve our quilting history.
Guild member Marcia Hampton
serves as curator of the collection. If you would like to inquire about
borrowing the "keeper collection" as a special exhibit, please email us.
Following are
a sampling of other "Keeper Quilts" in our collection:
Note: For a time, this page
is somewhat under construction. While the images are present, the webmaster
has not yet had an opportunity to consult with the curator for quilt names
and other information.
